Emergency Substitute Teacher

 

JOB PURPOSE

This position will involve working as a substitute/on-call teacher to assist schools on a program need basis. The positions will be varied, and may include instruction with basic education and disabled students in self-contained and regular education settings, following lesson and discipline plans and performing other job-related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must pass a background check, which includes employee paid fingerprinting.
  • Positive recommendations/references from previous supervisors. Family and friend will not be considered acceptable references.

 

QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:

  • Ability to work Monday-Friday, hours vary depending on assignment. Must be able to work at various locations as needed.
  • Ability to work in any classroom, including all special services classrooms. Substitutes can designate subjects/age/location in AESOP preferences.
  • Ability to uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures.
  • Ability to take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  • Willingness to attend in-service trainings or other meetings as required, as well as attend any training as directed by management.
  • Evidence of ability to assess and correct issues involving safety.
  • Evidence of ability to establish and maintain a tactful, cooperative and effective relationship with students, parents, staff, fellow employees and management.
  • Evidence of ability to approach assigned work in a professional manner, working toward the common goal of teamwork, pride in service delivery and continuous improvement
  • Demonstrate sufficient command of the English language to communicate verbally and in writing with students, parents, district staff members and other concerned people regarding all aspects of their job related activities.
  • Evidence of ability to use basic computer programs to maintain records, enter timecard information and read and respond to email.
  • Punctual and consistent attendance.

  • Demonstrated clerical skills, training and/or experience in using computers and other technology applications.
  • Ability to be flexible with the varied demands of the position.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work with a variety of people.
  • Ability to follow directions.
  • Willingness to work with all children within the school regardless of abilities.
  • Willingness to support and promote the curriculum and to maintain a warm and friendly relationship with those teachers.
  • Follow teacher lesson plan.
  • Maintain a safe and calm teaching environment.
  • Model appropriate behavior.
  • Apply appropriate classroom management techniques
  • Direct paraeducators in their duties.
