Bus Driver – Transportation

Split Shift: 6:45 AM - 8:45 AM and 2:30 PM - 4:30 PM

 

Title: Bus Driver May be Temporary route - will have status to bid for continuing route as available. Generally, up to 4 hours per day – split between morning and afternoon.

 

General Statement of Responsibilities:

The Bus Driver is directly responsible to the Transportation Supervisor in the operation of school buses; and transports students to and from school. 

Major Responsibilities:

This position could include but not be limited to the following duties:

  1. Know, understand, and apply practices of the School Bus Driver Handbook published by OSPI.
  2. Drive buses on regularly scheduled routes, field trips, or activity trips, both within and outside the district boundaries.
  3.  Be able to use emergency equipment, including installation of tire chains.
  4. Fuel, inspect, and clean the bus and related equipment as required.  Responsible for maintaining interior and exterior bus cleanliness.
  5. Maintain control over passengers as related to safety.  Report unsafe acts or conditions that require the attention of persons other than the driver.
  6. Successfully complete bus driver training courses established by OSPI and/or the school district.
  7.  Perform pre-and post-trip inspections as required.
  8. Keep the supervisor informed as to the condition of the bus and accidents.  Report any accident or law infraction to the supervisor immediately.
  9. Clean bus/vehicle for presentation to Washington State Patrol at the end of the school year.
  10. Perform other duties as required by the Supervisor of Transportation.

 

Qualifications: (Including STATE LAW)

  1. High School diploma or equivalent.
  2. At least 21 years old.
  3. Must possess necessary driver's licenses.
  4. Must meet physical requirements established by OSPI/DOT including being drug-free.
  5. Must have five years’ experience as a licensed driver.
  6. Must have and maintain a good driving record.  Must provide to employer a driving abstract that reflects a safe driving history and meets the standards set forth in 392-144 WAC.
  7. Must have current first aid card.

 Essential Job Functions:

  • Ability to operate school buses safely under stressful situations when transporting children.
  • Drivers must be physically capable of sitting for at least two hours at one time.
  • Excellent visual acuity.
  • Effective communication with students and maintaining control of students.
  • Ability to complete forms, reports, and other basic clerical-related activities.
  • Must possess sufficient strength and ability to assist ill or physically challenged students to enter or exit the school bus or provide assistance in evacuating an overturned bus.
  • Hearing capability sufficient to detect and distinguish traffic sounds to allow adequate time for defensive or evasive action if necessary.

Wage: $19.60 - $24.48 depending on experience.  

 

Benefits: Employees anticipated to work more than 630 hours per year will be eligible for Benefits through the School Employees Benefits Board (SEBB) Standard benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, and Long-Term Disability.
