Position: Assistant Cross Country Coach
Location: Deer Park Middle School
PURPOSE STATEMENT
To provide knowledge, motivation and leadership in an activity in which the student can excel to full potential while competing in an atmosphere that adds to total education including physical well being, moral character, and social and mental development.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Instruct athletes regarding techniques, rules and safety practices of the sport
- Develops and organizes practice program in conjunction with Head Coach.
- Schedule and conduct practices according to agreed upon schedules.
- Supervise athletes from the scheduled beginning of the practice or game until the last athlete is picked up, knowing where all participants are at all times
- Supervise athletes on buses on trips to other schools
- Promote the entire interscholastic program of the school and direct the program in harmony with the total school program
- Set an example of the highest ethical and moral conduct including respecting and supporting contest officials
- Foster among the participants and spectators an appreciation of the values of athletics, an attitude of good sportsmanship, and a sense of pride in self, team, school, and community
- Promote a healthy lifestyle to student athletes
- Communicate with parents in regard to team rules and athletic department guidelines with assistance of Head Coach.
- Adhere to all safety laws and district policies
- Follow the injuries, care, and prevention procedures of the Deer Park School District
- Report any injury to the Head Coach for proper process to notify Athletic Director.
- Recognize and adhere to any athlete health plans
- Provide equal opportunities to all athletes as per the student nondiscrimination policy
- Perform other related duties as assigned by Head Coach or the Athletic Director
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be 19 or older for Assistant Coach and 21 or older for Head Coach per WIAA rules
- Must have current First Aid/CPR certification or be able to acquire it by the start of the season
- Understand the activity/sport, its safety practice, techniques, rules and progression of skill development
- Previous applicable coaching experience preferred
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Demonstrate positive attitude toward students and ability to motivate them toward developing a successful program
- Be able to consistently meet schedule responsibilities for practice, coaching preparation, competition and related activities
- Ability to plan practices, events and organize all the necessary materials and persons to carry out the activity
- Ability to work with students, colleagues, parents and officials in a positive, professional, and equitable manner
- Ability to set up track and field meets and keep organized and reasonably on-time.

Stipend Range: $1,624 - $2,050 depending on experience.
Benefits: Employees anticipated to work more than 630 hours per year will be eligible for Benefits through the School Employees Benefits Board (SEBB) Standard benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, and Long-Term Disability.
